Here are a few things you might want to do to keep yourself private when using Telegram. All these setting can be found in the settings area (click on the gear). These are suggested settings and set them to what you feel comfortable with.
Privacy and Security Settings
Security
Make sure to set some of the Security settings to fit your needs. Enabling Two-Step Verification is always a good first step.
*** IMPORTANT *** Are you tired of being added to a random Telegram channels? I’ve been added to bogus, impersonated Telegram Channels which I thought and appeared to be the original channel I joined. Make sure you set #3 to My contacts or None
Privacy
Phone number:
Set Who can see my phone number to Nobody
Set Who can find me by my number to My Contacts
Add exceptions if you’d like
Last seen & Online:
Set Who can see my last seen time to Nobody
Add exceptions if you’d like
Group & Channels
Set to My contacts or None
Calls:
Set Who can call me Nobody. Use Signal instead.
Profile photos:
Only use your real photo if you are comfortable with people knowing what you really look like.
Set Who can see my profile photo to My Contacts
Forwarded Message
Set to My contacts or None
Bio
Set to My contacts or None
Active Sessions Settings
If you don’t recognize any of your Active Sessions click on it and terminate it.
